Frequently Asked Questions
General Voice Piano Online
General
Q: Why do you prefer the Zoom platform?
A: Zoom allows me to share my screen and record the lessons. While I'm happy to meet via FaceTime, we miss out of some of the features made possible with Zoom.
Voice
Q: When I was young I was made fun of for my singing voice, is this the right place for me?
A: Yes, I particularly love working with voice students who have had negative singing experiences. I like to meet students where they are at in their learning curve, create an environment where they feel safe to grow and learn and even perform if they are interested.
Q: What kind of music will I be learning if I take voice with you, and do you only work with a particular skill level?
A: I work with everyone from beginners to experienced musicians, helping people to bring their skills to the next level. Depending on what you want to do with your singing and what you're interested in, we start with a bel canto vocal technique, and then we can work on anything from pop music to opera.
Piano
Q: What piano method books do you recommend? What if I come to you with my own piano books?
A: I have had the most success using the books by Nancy and Randall Faber series, Piano Adventures. That said, everyone is an individual. If you are currently using other method books by Keith Snell, John Thompson, Alfred or Bastien, I would be happy to work with those. I want to meet you where you're at, and then we can grow together as needed.
Online Lessons
Q: I need more information about your online lessons. What are your rates, and what should I expect?
A: If you've never had an online lesson, let me assure you, they can be as effective as in person lessons. You can find out more by visiting the Online Lessons page or contacting me.
